4 Decluttering Hacks You Need to Know

Share Post:

A home that is free from clutter is a home you can relax in. A home that is free from clutter is a home that is easier to clean. A home that is free from clutter is a home that is more organized. Basically, a home that is decluttered is just better.

Unfortunately, many of us simply do not have the time or energy, for whatever reason, to spend hours decluttering our space, no matter how easier it might make keeping a clean home or how well it takes the stress out of household moving, which is why I’ve put together a list of decluttering hacks that anyone can use, and which will significantly minimize the amount of time and effort decluttering takes.

1. Move everything out of the room

Okay, so I’m not expecting you to move your couches and other heavy furniture out of the house so you can declutter – that would be madness – but if you have a space that’s really decluttered, moving everything out into the garden or a less cluttered space, can make things easier. You can lay it all out and quickly survey what is trash and what is not. Remove the trash immediately and you’ll have far less to do overall.

2. Take it a room at a time

It can be tempting to try and declutter the whole house all at once. Not only is this likely to be impossible, but it also isn’t the most efficient use of your time, and things are likely to get missed. It’s far better to choose an easy room to get you started. Open a drawer and declutter everything in that before moving on to the next drawer or table or whatever, moving from one side of the room to the next. That way, you can ensure you get everything without overwhelming yourself.

3. Have four large bags or boxes at the ready

Why? So that you can immediately toss each item you’re decluttering into one of the following:

  • Donate
  • Trash
  • Sell
  • Keep

Anything you do not wish to keep can be filed into one of those four categories immediately without interrupting your flow so you can deal with them when you’ve finished decluttering your space.

4. Invest in extra storage

Before you start your declutter, invest in some extra storage for your home. Why do you need to do this if you are planning to get rid of your clutter? Unless you’re really ruthless, chances are you will be holding on to a fair amount of stuff. By having storage already in place, you can ensure that anything you put in the keep box is immediately assigned a new place to call home, which means your home will not only be less cluttered but also more organized overall. I’ll also make it easier for you to keep on top of things and keep your home in good shape once the decluttering is over and done with.

I hope this helps you maintain a clutter-free home without it taking up too much of your life!
