Sneaky Ways that your Home is Draining your Bank Account

Share Post:

If you want to make sure that your home is not draining your bank too much, then you have come to the right place. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the hidden expenses you might not be aware of yet. Take a look below to find out more.

Backed up Dryer

Spring is not the only time that you should be checking your dryer hose. It’s vital that you inspect your hose on a regular basis. If you neglect this task, then you may find that your dryer ends up working overtime and this is the last thing that you need. It may be that you end up adding 30% or more onto your energy bill and this is the last thing that you need. You can easily buy a dryer vent brush at any home depot center, and this will help you to remove any lint that may have built up over time.

Cracks

Running your heating in the winter and running your AC when the hot weather comes around will make your home way more comfortable. If you have random cracks or crevices, then this will be letting your hot and cool air escape.  If you want to save up to 15% on your energy bills, then you need to look out for any escape routes if you can. Make sure that you caulk around your door frames as well as taking care of your windows too. It’s also wise for you to try and invest in weather stripping as well. This can be done to seal any drafts that may be present. Inspect the exterior of your home and look out for any protrusions too. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you are able to save.

Poor Insulation

Did you know that over 40% of your home’s heat loss can take place in the attic? Heat rises, very naturally and usually it will escape through your attic. If you want to stop this from draining your money, then you need to try and make sure that you have a good attic stair cover. The great thing about this is that it will give you huge cost savings and you won’t have to worry about paying to get your home insulated either. Taking this step can easily save you 20% on your energy bill, right away.

Dirty and Clogged AC Units

If it isn’t broke, you might not feel the need to fix it, right? Unfortunately, that concept does not apply here. Central air conditioning will cost you monthly. If your air filter is dirty or if you have low refrigerant levels, then this will work against you. It’s wise for you to hire an AC maintenance service, or an AC repair service if you can. It may be that your unit is being put under way more pressure than you realize, and this could be draining your bills. If you get this sorted now, you may end up paying for it, but it will save you a fortune in the long run.
