Why Quitting Your Job and Traveling the World is Always a Good Idea

Share Post:

When it comes to life, there will always be set guidance that you get and feel like you need to stick to. Most of the time, that will look like going to college, getting a good job, buying your home, and settling down with your husband to start a family. But that doesn’t mean that you have to keep things that way. Although deviating from that plan can seem shocking and as if you’re not on track, things really don’t have to be that way. There isn’t just one template for living. And you may actually find that doing things your way feels a whole lot freer.

At one time in life, the idea of quitting your job and traveling the world would have been very frowned upon and considered frivolous. However, things really aren’t seen that way anymore. Sure, your mom or your grandma might be shocked, but living life on your own terms is so much more common now than it ever has been before.

If you know that you’re feeling tired from the monotony of your life, shaking things up could be just what you need. In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at exactly why you might want to shake things up in your life and do things your own way – and yes, that includes quitting your job and traveling the world!

Why So Dramatic?

So first of all, the title of this blog post is pretty dramatic – but it’s meant to be. It’s meant to send a message and hit home. Because if you’re someone that has found themselves living the same kind of life for years and you feel like you’re stuck living someone else’s reality, it’s really time to change that. You may find that you talk yourself out of change for years and ultimately that’s always going to be a sign that you have to do something drastic.

Is it Really About Quitting Your Job to Travel?

In short, no – it’s not all about quitting your job to travel. But it can be. For some of you, this could be an interchangeable symbol for something else, such as moving to a new city or starting off again in the right career. It doesn’t have to be about traveling the world unless that’s what you’ve always dreamt of. It’s simply about finally setting yourself free and following a life that feels more meant for you.

Why You Might Want to Quit Your Job and Travel

But if you have always dreamt of quitting your job and traveling the world, why not do it? After all, you only get one life and you may find that you constantly talk yourself out of doing it. Quitting your job and taking a break doesn’t signify the end of your lie. Instead, it allows you to explore the world, learn new things, grow as a person, and then think about your next move (or come back to it if you already have it all planned out and in place).

Choosing to Find a Career That Lights You Up

So one of the reasons why this could be a great idea for you is because it might just be that you’re not in love with your career. Whether your interests have changed as you’ve gotten older, or you followed a career path that was suggested for you rather than your own choice, you always have the option of finding something that feels more right for you. And sometimes that starts with taking a break first.

Checking in With How You’re Living

Another reason here is so that you get to check in on how you’re living. Ask yourself – how is your lifestyle serving you right now? Do you feel fulfilled? Are you happy? Are you in the location or house or lifestyle that you want? If not, could you make changes so that you are?

Selling, Packing Up, and Moving When You Want to

Sometimes, it really does come down to the idea of selling your home (or giving up your lease agreement), packing up everything you have, and getting out of there. Okay, so it may only be temporary, and putting your stuff into SecureSpace Self Storage could be a wise idea. But knowing that you have the option is always a great idea. You don’t have to stay where you are or feel trapped, you always have the option to fly away!

Retraining and Starting Again

Whether you want to do this instead of traveling or you decide that this is what you want to do on your return (or maybe just without the travel altogether), it could be that you retrain. Maybe going back to school is going to be great for you. If there’s something you always felt that you should be doing, studying and starting again could be just what the doctor ordered.

Taking a Break and Seeing the World

But sometimes, you can just feel overwhelmed with life. Sometimes, you really don’t know what’s next. And that’s okay. It can be all about just taking a break, giving yourself some time out, and allowing yourself to see the world. It doesn’t have to be this huge period of growth and expansion, but often about rest and recovery.

Giving Yourself the Grace of Time

This is why you need to be able to give yourself some grace. And take all the time you need to do it. Sometimes, this can come off the back of a breakup, trauma, job loss, another form of loss, or any big life event. Sometimes you’re just lost and need to find yourself again. Either way, it’s okay to give yourself some time and take it slow.

Figuring Out What You Really Want

When you do that and you allow yourself to be slow and take all the time you need, you’re in the best possible position to work out what you actually want in life. It doesn’t have to be this huge aha moment, but you do deserve to figure out what will serve you best in life, and that can often come after a period of self-reflection like this.

Not Being Afraid to Start Over

And don’t be scared about what this all means. You may find that you have moments where you freak out about starting over and feel that you’re failing. But you’re not. You’re setting yourself free and giving yourself the opportunity to get what you really want in your life.

Living Life on Your Terms

Remember, this is all about you being able to live your life on your own terms. If you’re waking up in the middle of the night having a panic attack, if you hate the thought of going to work every morning, or if there’s more that you want for yourself and for your life, you can have it. You just have to have the courage to ask for it.

Making the Leap and Never Looking Back

In conclusion, this is always going to be about making a choice that feels right for you, committing to it, and seeing how life looks on the other side. Again, even when this feels like it’s going to be a super scary thing, it doesn’t always have to be. Sometimes, it gets to be as simple as making the leap and not looking back. You might just find that in doing so, your life finally gets to be exactly how you want it to be!
