I’m here to tell you which habits I adopted that helped me with having a better night of sleep. If you have a bad sleeping schedule or simply want to start making the most of the end of your day, this article is for you.
1. TAKE A NICE WARM SHOWER
Personally, I’ve always preferred to shower at night but if your preference is to take it in the morning try to when you’re done with all your tasks of the day to take a quick warm shower. It will help you to understand that the day is done and it will definitely relax you and set the tone for the rest of the night.
2. TIDY UP AND LIGHT UP SOME CANDLES
You may not even notice, but the environment you’re in really affects your mood. That’s why it’s so important to keep your space clean since it will help you feel less stressed. Also, lighting up some candles will make the space comfier and, consequently, it will make you feel comfier.
3. STRETCH
Stretching will help you with stress relief and your night routine should be all about relaxing and taking time for yourself so, stretching, is definitely an indispensable habit.
4. SKINCARE
If you don’t already have one, you should definitely invest in it. Taking care of your skin is one of the best things you can do and you will thank yourself in 10 years. Take this time as a “me” time. Use it to listen to your favorite songs, dance, sing, think about what has been in your head, talk to yourself, literally everything. It’s your little spa moment of the day and uses it to think only you, you, and you.
5. READ
Even if it’s only two pages, take a little moment to read. It’s not only important for your brain intellectually, but it’s also one of the most relaxing activities. If you don’t like to read, try to find a book about a subject you’re passionate about, either it is cars, self-development, geography, whatever you like, go find a book about it and read it.
6. WRITE/THINK ABOUT 3 THINGS YOU’RE GRATEFUL ABOUT THAT DAY AND 1 THING YOU WANT TO GET BETTER AT
This helps you with feeling grateful and always see the positive parts of each day. During the day there’s always something good that happens and doing this exercise will help you to remember that day in a positive way. Also, if you set 1 thing that you want to get better at every day you will never stop evolving and becoming a better person. Either it is to control your anger issues or learn to change your car oil, it doesn’t matter. Just commit to getting better at it.
7. DON’T GO ON SOCIAL MEDIA
This is something I am still working on but it definitely helps. Some people say to turn off all the technology like 2 hours before bed, but I would say start little by little. When the clock hits 10 pm I try my best to not go on social media anymore. I still go and watch some Netflix or Prime Video, but social media really affects us, and not going in it before sleep will truly help you to sleep better.
8. PLAN THE NEXT DAY
Planning is one of the main things to me and the only way to be organized. I think about everything I have/want to do the next day and then just schedule it in my agenda. Writing to-do lists is already great but if you set certain times to do each thing it will prevent you from procrastinating.
And that’s it for today. Constantly try to implement new and better habits into your life and always use the end of your day to relax and take care of yourself and your mental health.
