Island vacations are so amazing that you really don’t have to do anything more than sip cocktails on the beach while reading the latest bestseller and you will have the most wonderful time.
However, if that’s not really your jam, or if you want to really make the most of all the island of your choice, whether it be in the Maldives, Tahiti, Santorini, or elsewhere, here are a few things you can do to really squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of the place.
Chill out
Sure, it might not be the only thing you want to do, but if you don’t spend some time swaying in a hammock with a Mai Tai in one hand and a great book in, the other, you’ll be missing out. So, choose a prime spot on the beach and let yourself relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Explore the ocean
Being on an island means you’re surrounded by beautiful blue seas, and you will definitely want to take advantage of that. One of the best ways to explore the water is by chartering your own yacht and going off on an adventure.
Many people are hesitant to do this because they think that unless you know everything about the boat from how the Volvo Penta engine works to what the rudder is made of to stay safe, but actually it’s just common sense and as long as you wear your lifejackets and stay sensible, you can get out there and see coral reefs, whales, uncharted vistas and have a wonderful time doing it.
Get in the water
Of course, you’re going to want to explore the sea whether you charter a boat or not. Going on a guided snorkeling tour is a great way to see the things you don’t usually see on land. You can get up close and personal with beautiful creatures like sea turtles and tropical fish and it really is like entering into a whole new world for a little while.
Eat local
Many people who visit island resorts end up staying in the resort complex where they eat eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, and steak for dinner. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you really want to make the most of your island vacation, then you will definitely want to hit up some of the local eateries to sample authentic local dishes.
The great thing about most island locations is that the food is really fresh. They have fish that was plucked out of the ocean that morning, coconuts that fell to the ground that afternoon, and some of the freshest, sweetest tropical fruits you will ever sample, all lovingly cooked in a traditional way. Make an effort to eat at local spots and you will absolutely eat well.
Get active
Whether it’s climbing the local volcano mountain for a pretty view, skydiving or windsurfing, get up and get active and you will learn so much about yourself.
Island vacations are all about luxury experiences and beautiful locations, so you’re sure to have an amazing time no matter what you do!
